James has been working in architecture for nearly two decades. He is a licensed architect in Vermont and Illinois, has a master’s in Architecture and a BS in Architecture and Environmental Design. James has experience tackling a broad range of design challenges and leading design efforts from early visioning through project execution. He has worked on projects ranging from large-scale mixed-use to community-focused multifamily developments, to Lewis Creek’s personalized single family homes.

James was drawn to Lewis Creek because there is an opportunity to create meaningful impact and innovation through the Design-Build collaboration of clients, designers, builders, consultants and community stakeholders to solve problems and shape places that improve people's daily lives. He is personally motivated to help address Vermont's housing challenges through thoughtful, context-sensitive building. He believes good design can balance homeowner goals, community needs, economic realities, and environmental stewardship, creating places that are both practical and enduring.

James was born in Ottawa, Ontario and raised in Columbia, Maryland. He chose Vermont because it is one of the few places in the world blessed with both remarkable natural beauty and a community so deeply committed to preserving and caring for the place where they live. He lives in Burlington with his wife and their unlimited plants. When he’s not at work you can find James enjoying the many outdoor activities that VT has to offer, including mountain biking, sailing, running, and rock climbing. He also loves board games, video games, painting, and creating art.
